Pocklington Tennis Club Named Club Of The Year

Pocklington Tennis Club has been revealed as Yorkshire Tennis’ Club of the Year 2019 at an awards ceremony held at the Holiday Inn, Garforth on Monday 9 December.

The Club is now in contention for the regional title, which would then see it compete for the overall LTA national award.

Being named as the Yorkshire Tennis Club of the Year is acknowledgement of all the work put in by the committee, volunteers and membership which has seen the Club to continue to go from strength to strength.

Major developments in 2019

On presenting the award, Yorkshire Tennis referred to the recent installation of floodlights and gated entry which have increased the amount of time that the courts can be used as well as developing the opportunities for non-members to pay-and-play.

The increased disabled access was commented upon, as well as the continuing development of the Club’s junior section, which has seen a surge of new members is 2019.

Volunteering rewarded

In addition to the Club’s award, Chairman Chris French was also Highly Commended in the Volunteer of the Year category, recognition for the number of hours he devotes to pushing the Club forward, improving facilities and building membership – a lot of which contributed to the Club of the Year accolade.

On the same evening, Chris also collected the Yorkshire colours for Rebecca Hill in her absence.
