When and how did you start playing tennis?
I started in 1996 (6 years old) at local club coaching sessions. I come from a tennis playing family.
What other sports did you play when you were a junior?
Cricket, badminton, cross country
What made you choose to become a coach?
Honestly, I was looking for some work during studies. I decided to go full time when I realised how much I enjoyed coaching.
What do you find the most enjoyable/rewarding aspect of coaching?
It’s very rewarding seeing the positive impact learning a difficult sport like tennis can make on a child’s confidence and overall development.
What is your favourite age group to coach, and why? Sorry for the non answer but I feel every age group offers it’s own different set of challenges and rewards!
Who is your favourite player?
Gael Monfils, great athleticism and of course the entertainment factor!
What is your favourite type of shot?
The lob. Watch the Andy Murray one against Goffin in 2015 Davis Cup win.
What is your favourite tennis related memory?
As above. It was great seeing Britain win the Davis Cup. Andy Murray’s lob to win it was quite special.
Which do you prefer: mixed doubles, men’s doubles or singles and why?
Men’s doubles. I really enjoy the team aspect… and going to the pub afterwards!
If you weren’t a tennis coach, what would you be?
I’d like to own a cafe/cactus shop.
Tell us one thing about yourself that might surprise us…
Nothing, I’m very boring.
